Every year, European Heritage Days are the occasion to enjoy open houses in the different sites of the RATP (French public transport operator) along with many entertainments so that you get to know its story, its moving heritage and its daily actions.
These free events usually gather about 11,000 visitors, curious to learn more on public transport we use daily. But because of coronavirus, the RATP has had to adapt. Children may be disappointed as there will be no quirky tours, or ride in a 30's bus this year. All the more so as this year, we celebrate the 120th anniversay of the Parisian metro with the line 1.
Instead, entertainments are to be discovered on the RATP website throughout the weekend including fun facts posted on social networks. Children can take part in a great drawing contest, based on a picture from a metro station.
In 2019, the RATP opened its archives in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and its collection of material set in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. Small and big curious were to discover the cinema metro station as well as how automatic metros work such as the ones on the line 14. You will have to wait for next year to see them upclose.
