For European Heritage Days 2020, the Grand Palais opens the doors of its big nave to discover the impressive 35-m high glass roof. If the monument is very well-known by Parisians and visited by millions of persons yearly, not a lot actually know its story.

Visit the casting workshop or the engraving on copper or brass workshop. Places are limited, do not forget to sign up in late August. On Sunday September 20, you can visit the Grand Palais and be amazed by the beauty of the building.

Created for the huge and impressive 1900 World’s Fair in Paris, the Grand Palais is a whole lot along with the Petit Palais and the Pont Alexandre III. At that time, it was impossible to link the Champs-Elysées to the Invalides.

The idea was groundbreaking, but the architecture contest isn’t conclusive… Not a single architect can take up the challenge alone, it’s then said that Henri Deglane will take care of the Grand Palais main part, Albert Louvet will create the intermediary part and the Petit Palais part will be given to Albert Thomas…

In 2020, 120 years later then, of this wonderful project remains a very beautiful monument used to exhibitions and performances of all kinds. Let’s make the best of European Heritage Days to discover the empty nave at sunset, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Beautiful photos ahead!
