For political enthusiasts, head for theNational Assembly. As part of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), the institution is once again opening its doors to reveal what goes on behind the scenes of power and the national heritage preserved in this mecca of French politics.

Built in 1728 by the Duchess of Bourbon, the two buildings of theAssemblée Nationale were soon considered to be"the city's greatest ornament after the royal houses". Today, the two buildings house the Chamber of Deputies and the residence of the President of the Assembly. While the Palais underwent major transformations in the 19th century, such as the creation ofa "sugar loaf" roof and a peristyle of twelve columns, which totally altered its architecture, drawings and models preserved in the library allow us to better appreciate the building's primary style, similar to the Grand Trianon. Please note, however, that admission is by registration only . So don't forget to register in advance on theAssemblée nationale website.
