As part of the Journées du Patrimoine 2023 (Heritage Days 2023), the Fort de Cormeilles-en-Parisis is offering a wide range of activities all day on Sunday, September 17, 2023. We're off to the Val-d'Oise to take the time to rediscover a forgotten heritage, in a World War II atmosphere.
Thanks to the local association Les Amis du Fort, the former military fort at Cormeilles opens its doors to the public every 1st Sunday of the month. The fort, built between 1874 and 1877, was intended to be a key element in the defense of the capital, and was equipped with 64 cannons. In 1914, the fort was the first to be equipped with an anti-aircraft battery, capable of shooting down the zeppelins that came to bomb Paris.

Disused by the army in the 1970s, it now houses a military museum and this year sees the inauguration of a new Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires . The Journées du Patrimoine 2023 are the ideal time to discover it, as in addition to guided and self-guided tours, there are plenty ofactivities for the whole family. Take part in guided tours of the fort and its museums: discover its history, the folk art and traditions that surround it, the forge and the bakery. All in all, a great day out!
