For the centenary of the Armistice 14-18, 94,415 flowers colored like the French flag will be set in front of Paris city hall. Visible on Saturday November 10 and Sunday 11, 2018, these pansies and primroses are a tribute to the 94, 415 Parisians who died during the First world War.
Their names will be displayed on giant screens while the façade of the city hall will be lit in blue, white and red on the occasion.
This event is part of the commemorations of the WWI centenary.
Highlight of the weekend, the inauguration of the Parisian War Memorial scheduled on Sunday November 11, 2018 at 5 p.m. on one of the outer walls of the Père Lachaise cemetery, one hundred years after the signing of the end of the fights.
Also planned on November 11, the great national commemoration at the Arc de Triomphe that will gather the President of the Republic and over 60 heads of state and government in Paris before the 1st session of the Paris Peace Forum.
Another flowery tribute on the Invalides roundabout where street-artist Crey 132 draws a giant cornflower, at the Office national des anciens combattants’s request [Veterans’ national office].
Note that after this weekend, plants will be handed over to the shared gardens, Parisians holding a license to plant flowers as well as the city of Fresnes.
