It’s some sad news for all lovers of heavy rock and metal sounds. After a first edition at the Hippodrome de Longchamp then two others at the Brétigny Base 217, Download Festival Paris has decided to take a break. The edition 2019 won’t happen. Meet in the summer 2020, always at the Brétigny Base 217 to find the Download Festival Paris. And meet in March 2019 for the first announcements.
The festival fans and regulars have learned the sad news via an official press release on Download Festival Paris Facebook.
We especially learn that this decision has been taken by common assent between the Agglomération Coeur d’Essonne hosting the event and Live Nation France, the festival organizers.
And the reasons advanced are numerous. “The year 2019 will be useful to think about a method more sticking to the audience’s new yearnings and more suited to the sites’ new yearnings: greener, more local, more sustainable… In the same spirit motivating the Agglomeration for the development of the Base and its territory, Live Nation wishes to rethink the method of the Download in order to increase the partnerships with the local players and offer more activities linked to the territory; on the other hand, the Agglomération will be able to keep on doing the former military base up, the biggest land reserve of the southern Ile de France, already attracting many companies and general public events”, the press release reads.
Live Nation France general manager Angelo Gopee also explains: “We need time to develop the event more. The first two editions have been a success, but we feel like we can do better by putting the territory into the heart of the festival, starting with the many local players”.
As for the festival director Armel Campagna, he explains: “We have our hearts set on offering just as good by being more inventive on the artistic shape, more careful about the local talents, eco-friendlier and more collaborative with the local players”.
For the record, Download Festival Paris was created in 2016 at the Hippodrome de Longchamp with an explosive lineup gathering Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Korn, Deftones and even Megadeth and Anthrax.
Then change of scenery in 2017 and 2018 with the take-over of the Base 217 of the Coeur d’Essonne Agglomération. Download Festival France even managed to gathered 120,000 festivalgoers for each of the two editions in Essonne thanks to a lineup that brought together in 2017: Linkin Park, Blink-182, Rancid, System Of A Down, Slayer, Mastodon, Prophets of Rage, Green Day then in 2018: Guns n Roses, Foo Fighters, Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, Ghost, The Offspring and even The Hives and Volbeat.
Meet from March 2019 to know more about the dates and the first names of the edition 2020 of Downolad Festival Paris.
