After the success of the previous walks for the climate including the latest one (December 8) that brought together 230,000 people in 191 cities to report the inaction on climate change and call for an answer at the level of the emergency, a new walk for the climate is on its way.
Held by Rise For The Climate France and supporting – among others – L’Affaire du siècle (over 1.5 million signatures on December 23), the event expects to see as many people as possible in order to demand a change as soon as possible.
On the Facebook event we can read: “We are living in a more and more critical environmental and social context: record greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity loss, temperatures rising and aggravation of disparities between rich and poor, including 14% of the population in difficult situations in France. […] In light of the inaction of the government, the civil society asks for answers at the level of the issue: the survival of humanity.”
The goals of this new walk for the climate? Demanding “dramatic measures to reorganize the society on fair and solidarity-based grounds for everyone and for the planet”, as well as demanding “fair, effective and redistributive carbon taxes, social and ecological measures improving the transition to the alternatives allowing the live better, the end of fossil energies and the development of wind and solar farms, a plan for massive training in forward-looking sectors, especially for the ones in the most difficult situations, the end of impunity for multinationals, lobbies and other climaticide lobbies (in the banking, power, agriculture sectors).”
Moreover, several processions will join the Walk of the Century. Several departing points and events:
