Solideo – the Olympic Delivery Authority – unveils a partnership with Ile-de-France ports and the Voies Navigables de France [Waterways of France] to build the upcoming Olympic Village for Paris 2024. But still sticking to the will of offering the first eco-friendly and sustainable Olympic Games in history.

In Paris, even the Seine river is getting ready for Paris 2024! A partnering convention as been signed between Solideo, the Île-de-France prefecture and Paris ports and the Voie Navigables de France give priority to waterway transport to build the upcoming Olympic village.

Overlapping Saint Ouen, Île Saint-Denis and Saint Denis, it’s one of the biggest worksites for the future Olympic Games. And if the logistics of this pharaonic project include the Seine, it’s first and foremost to limit the air-pollution as much as possible. So, we can easily imagine this solution presents many assets.

When we look at the difficult plan, the Seine seems to be the common thread of the different parts of the village. An unmissable transport way useful to evacuate some 500,000 tons of excavated materials produced by the works. So, the aim is still to avoid any truck overload while enjoying the ideal setting of the two plots of the village.

And the craziest project is said to be the installation of a “conveyor belt” on stilts. Yes, you read well, it’s actually about building a conveyor belt to go above the Seine. A solution that could reduce the carbon footprint of the construction site by 80%, according to Solideo. With these countless innovations, Paris 2024 carbon footprint is expected to be under London 2012’s.
