While the coronavirus epidemic seems to be slowing down in France, a new health defense council is meeting this Wednesday, June 2, 2021, to study the 3rd phase of decontainment and vaccination during the summer and teenage vacations. What can we expect?

As the extension of decontamination approaches, and the health situation slowly improves across France, the government maintains its vigilance and holds a new defense council on the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic.

So what can we expect? The government is continuing its vaccination campaign, and this will be the main topic of this Defense Council. On the table: teenagers, sick elders and vacations. Theacceleration of the vaccination campaign, which is now open to the over-18s, and theopening up of the campaignto new audiences remain a key issue, as do the threats posed by new variants of the coronavirus.

In an interview with LCI on May 30, Alain Fischer, President of the Conseil d'orientation vaccinale, said that vaccination of 16-17 year-olds was "a matter of days".

For 12-15 year-olds, it is likely to take a little longer , despite the green light given by the European Medicines Agency to the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

According to the Institut Pasteur, herd immunity would only be possible with 70% of the population vaccinated, and that includes children, if not 90% to 100% of adults. Vaccinating young people is therefore a vital step forward.

OnFriday, government spokesman Gabriel Attal declared that the Ministry of Health would present in the next few days "a specific plan for the summer, with details of how we are going to organize the vaccination campaign in the summer" . The provision of additional vaccines in tourist areas is therefore under consideration. Measures should be put in place to cross-check data and avoid a maximum number of cancellations or double registrations.

People who have already been infected and developed the disease will also be at the heart of the debate. At present, only one dose of vaccine is recommended for them. But, according to Jean Castex, we need to"know whether or not, and under what health conditions, we can exempt them from a second dose of vaccine". Should the second dose be extended to people with proven immunodeficiency, or to people who were infected after the first dose?
