As the third phase of the lockdown exit is coming, and while the health situation is slowly improving everywhere in France, the government remains cautious and hosts a new defense council about the Covid-19 epidemic.
What to expect, then? The government keeps on vaccinating and this will be the main topic of this defense council. On the table: adolescents, former sick, and vacation. The improvement of the vaccinal campaign - now open to people aged 18+ and new age groups - remains the main topic, so are the threats from the new coronavirus variants.
Invited on LCI this May 30, Head of the Vaccinal Orientation Board Alain Fischer considered vaccinating 16-17 y.o. was "a matter of days".
As for 12-15 y.o., it may take more time although the European Medicines Agency have the green light to use the Pfizer-BioNTech vacicne.
According to the Institut Pasteur, herd immunity is only possible with 70% of the population vaccinated, including children, or 90% to 100% of adults. Vaccinating young people remains essential to move forward.
On Friday, government spokesman Gabriel Attal stated the Health Minister was to present in the coming days "a special plan for the summer including specifications as for the way the vaccination campaign will be orgainzed over the summer". Giving extra doses of vaccines to tourist areas is being considered. Processes will be instated to cross data and prevent as many deregistrations or double registrations as possible.
People already contaminated and that developed the disease will also be at the very core of the debate. At the moment, only one dose of vaccine is recommended to them. But, according to Jean Castex, we need "to find out if we can or not, and under what health conditions, spare them a second dose of vaccine". Should second dose of vaccine be extended to immunocompromised paients and people contaminated after the first dose?
