As France is partly back into lockdown because of the coronavirus epidemic, this Friday March 26, 2021, the government announced controls in railway stations, airports, and toll booths are strengthened everywhere in France, and particularly in the hardest-hit regions such as Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France.

One week after instating a third lockdown in Francecontrols are toughened up. While each and everyone is encouraged to stay at home and only go out in case of vital necessity and with a certificate, the difficulty of implement this measure has already led to an increase of the fine in case of breaking the rule.

As 19 departments are placed under new "massive curbing measures", this Friday March 26, 2021 the government tells AFP that police controls will "increase starting today" in "railway stations, airports, and toll booths". Controls related to "compliance with health guidelines" will also be proceeded.

Of course, the goal is to effectively work against the third epidemic wave that is hitting Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France really hard. And to instate the new restrictions announced by the government on Thursday March 18, 2021. Following a meeting between Secretary of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and Prime Minister Jean Castex, the measures have been decided on. Strengthened controls as the health situtaion is "critical with the arrival of the third wave and the predominance of the UK variant", Matignon states.

According to the PM's office, a "race against time has started" to comply with health guidelines. In railway stations, airports and Paris toll booths, more controls starting this Friday are to be expected, and for the entire weekend. For the record, in case restrictions are not complied with, a €135 fine might be given.

Breaches have been noticed in several cities in France. In Paris, the authorities have called on everyone's citizenship stating stricter measures shall be instated. Starting Friday March 20th, 2020, the Police Headquarters announce to reinforce controls in Paris railway stations.

In a press release, they remind that: “all trips to vacations and on weekends are not part of the special reasons included in the derogatory trip certificate, and it is forbidden to go to a new confinement place outside Paris or they could spread the virus”.

Prior to the lockdown, inter-urban trips were already not recommended. Today, while France has claimed a health emergency, the regulation is stricter: travelers not having a valid reason will be fined €135.
