French President’s detractors enjoy spreading fake news on social networks to make people believe that Emmanuel Macron – far from being worried about French on lockdown for a month because of the health crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic – is basking in the sun with his family on the French Riviera! The President would even make the most of it to jet-ski with his wife Brigitte.
If pictures of Emmanuel Macron riding a jet-ski are real, they date from summer 2018. As a matter of fact, these are pictures shared by tabloid Voici and covering the “great holidays of Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron at the beach”.
Moreover, at the beginning of spring break for the Paris region, some not very scrupulous “medias” said the President spent the weekend with his family in Fort Brégançon in Var. Once again, it was former news from a website about the President’s holidays in the summer 2019.
To make sure you’re not fooled and take the risk of sharing these absurdities, there are different ways to identify a fake news on the internet. For instance, we have internet website Hoaxbuster that is the collaborative platform against misinformation and that proved its value years ago.
But you can also look for the source of the picture or a video thanks to Google. Perhaps you don’t know, but the famous Google search engine also enables you to look for a specific picture. Indeed, the “picture” tab on upper left of the screen enables to go to the part of the website devoted to multimedia content search.
You only have to enter the url or a picture or select a file on your computer to discover where it comes from and when it was used.
