Notre-Dame: a Greenpeace banner serves as a wake-up call for the government on the climate

Earlier this Thursday July 9, Greenpeace activists have hung a huge banner with a strong message: “Climat: aux actes!” (Climate: to actions!) aiming at pushing the government to act in favor of the protection of the environment. It is on the crane of the Notre-Dame de Paris worksite, 80 meters (262.46ft) above the ground that the message has been displayed in the Parisian sky.

Citizens, take actions! Surprise and stupefaction earlier this morning on Thursday July 9 when seeing Notre-Dame de Paris: four Greenpeace France activists – the French branch of the NGO for the protection of the environment – managed to get to the top of the 80-meter high crane of the worksite of the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral to unfold a huge banner saying: “Climat: aux actes!

Tweet reads: “ACTION! Greenpeace activists climbed up to the top of the Notre-Dame de Paris crane, 80 meters above the ground, to unfold a “Climat: aux actes!” banned to condemn E. Macron’s climate inaction

Furthermore, Greenpeace’s activist action meets one precise goal: calling out the State, and especially its leader, Emmanuel Macron, to act as soon as possible to save the planet. One of the activists who chained himself up with metallic chains on the crane made the most of it to convey another message directly sent to the French President: “Macron, climate, Notre-Dame” the sign reads. The crane has been set next to the cathedral since the terrible fire back on April 15, 2019 in that started in the heart of the building that is almost one thousand years old.

In concrete words, the NGO explains its motivations in a release and says that “with this action, Greenpeace directly talks to Emmanuel Macron to condemn his climate inaction”. Moreover, we remind you that Greenpeace and other militant associations have sued the government especially on that ground. To mark their words with actions.

By the way, the NGO goes on with President Macron’s part: “the president has multiplied big speeches on ecology since the very beginning of his mandate, but still objects to leading policy that is truly at the level of the climate emergency”. From now on, ecologist militants wait for actions to tune up with the president’s words.
