Faced with the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the French President has scheduled this Wednesday November 18, 2020 a new Defense Council. Along with members of the government, Emmanuel Macron is to make a call on the reinforcement or easing up of the restrictions instated to curb the spread of the virus. Reopening small stores from November 27 instead of December 1 is said to be on the agenda.

A new Defense Council held at the Élysée. As part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, as the health situation is deteriorating day by day with around tens thousands of new positive cases reported, Wednesday November 18, 2020 is expected to be a very important day. Prior to the weekly press brief held on Thursdays, President Macron gathers members of his government to address the evolution of the health situation on a day-by-day basis.

In concrete words, the head of State is to host on Wednesday November 18, 2020 in the morning a new Defense Council devoted to the Covid-19 epidemic. Right after, the executive will meet for the Ministerial Council, as they are on Wednesdays.

Furthermore, the Elysée says the exceptional meeting host with members of the government and the leader is to focus on the future and the evolution of the health crisis in France. With the Holidays just around the corner, the calendar is speeding up as fast as the spread of the virus and suggests it could be likely to announce the reopening of stores before December 1, as claimed by storekeepers, or a statement about the Christmas break and Holidays.

Therefore, planning a new Defense Council barely three weeks after implementing the new nationwide lockdown explains the general anger expressed by small stores. The latter hopes to reopen on Friday November 27, naming Black Friday. Before the Holidays and as small storekeepers grow angry, the executive is expected at the corner and has to make tough calls. Displeased citizens hope for new prospects as for a possible reopening of small stores and the organization of the Holidays and the yearly celebrations.

First set up in Paris, in Île-de-France and 8 other cities, then extended to 54 departments in France, the benefits of the curfew on the spread of the epidemic are starting to show. Health Minister Olivier Véran also speaks of a “slight tremor and indicators are slowly but steadily decreasing.
