As the deadline of December 15 is just around the corner, France will not meet the 5,000 new Covid cases per day goal enabling to exit lockdown, as Jean Castex explained this Thursday December 10 during a press brief. The situation forced the government to toughen up measures planned, like curfew starting from 8 p.m. from December 15 and no exemption on New Year's Eve.

This Thursday December 10, during Prime Minister's press brief, Jean Castex announced the measures planned by the French President as part of the lockdown exit strategy will be toughened up. France is still far from the 5,000-case-goal he set. This toughening yet does not apply to overseas territories.

And among these measures, the Prime Minister confirmed curfew from 8 p.m. - instead of 9 p.m. - and cancelation of the exemption planned for the New Year's Eve festivities. Please also note that cultural places such as theaters and movie theaters will be postponed for three weeks. Curfew also implies that people will have to get a special derogatory trip certificate for outings between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., as Secretary of the Interior Gérald Darmanin explained.

The latter also explained this curfew will have to be strictly followed and that the forces of order will have to control more. As for trips allowed, they can be from your home to place of work, for people working night shifts, as well as for health reasons, a pressing family matter, for general interest tasks, or even walk your dog. Any offender risks a €135 fine.

For the record, this November 24, Emmanuel Macron confirmed stores were to reopen starting November 28 in the morning, given they comply with a new health protocol. This reopening was not reassessed, despite the situation, excluding mandatory closure before 8 p.m.

During his address on November 24, 2020, the French PResident also announced lockdown will come to an end on December 15, but only if there are under 5,000 daily infections reported in France. And if the health situation allows it, derogatory trip certificates will no longer be needed from mid-December. Trips between regions will therefore be allowed again. “We will be once again allowed to travel without certificates, including between regions, and spend Christmas with our families” but limiting “useless tripsEmmanuel Macron said during his address on November 24.
