This is now official, the end of curfew from 11 p.m. - initially expected to end on June 30 - is moved to Sunday June 20, 2021. Starting from this Sunday, French are allowed to get out by night without derogatory trip certificate. Outdoor facemask-wearing is no longer mandatory starting from Thursday June 17, 2021.

Curfew ends this Sunday June 20, 2021! French are no longer quarantined since December 15, 2020. Yet, curfew has been instated in the country: first implemented between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and it has been pulled foward first to 6 p.m., but is now to start from 11 p.m. in mainland France. The lifting of the curfew was planned on June 30 with the 4th step of the lockdown exit calendar.

This Wednesday June 16, 2021, Prime Minister Jean Castex announces curfew from 11 p.m. ends from Sunday June 20, 2021. Namely 10 days ahead of the deadline scheduled by the government. "Curfew will stop starting from this Sunday", the head of government claimed at the end of the Ministerial Council.

Tweet reads: "Curfew from 11 p.m. - that was to be in until June 30 - will be lifted this Sunday"

Before specifying the motivations of the decision of putting an end to curfew earlier. "Curfew until 11 p.m. was to be instated until June 30, and will stop from this Sunday, namely 10 days before the deadline. Although this curfew measure met a need to accompany the end of the 3rd wave, the very good results recorded no longer justify it", he concludes. "Since the crisis began, the government wanted to react in a fair and proportionate fashion", the minister goes on. At the same time, compulsory outdoor facemask-wearing comes to a close starting from Thursday June 17, 2021.

As the Prime Minister announced at the end of the Ministerial Council this past April, the bill to exit the health crisis will be subject to Parliamentary vote. In concrete words, the text is to allow the implementation of a "transitory regime to exit the health crisis from June 2 to October 31", Castex explains.

Furthermore, this transitory regime is first and foremost to enable the government "to accompany the reopening process with measures fitting the health evolution, as well as enjoying the necessary tools in the event the epidemic is surging again", the head of government adds. By passing this decree, the executive will still be able to close places open to the public and even limitate outdoor gatherings.

Past June 2, the government can still reactivate curfew if need be, but for maximum one month. And depending on the prior agreement from the Parliament that would vote for the maximum duration of this restriction. At the same time, the Prime Minister reminds that by June 2, the Elysée can "modify or stop curfew at any time". This is why the four-step lockdown exit plan reads curfew could be fully lifted on June 30, 2021. Prior to this date, the measure should be eased twice.

In compliance with the government's lockdown exit plan, curfew is to be moved twice in May and June, before being fully lifted at the beginning of summer. French are allowed to be out until late as curfew is moved to 11 p.m. since Wednesday June 9. But this Wednesday June 16, 2021 Prime Minister Jean Castex announced curfew ultimately comes to a close this Sunday June 20 everywhere in France, and the obligation of wearing a mask outside is no longer valid starting this Thursday June 17 given the good results of the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic.
