As Covid keeps on spreading in France and a Defense Council has been held in emergency on Tuesday December 29, 2020 in the morning, the same day, during France 2’s TV news, Olivier Véran has made several statements. Keep reading to find out more.

A new address amid the fight against Covid, a few days prior to the President’s wishes… After a Defense Council was held on Tuesday December 29, 2020, Health Minister Olivier Véran has made several statements during France 2’s TV news at 8 p.m. the same day.

According to Franceinfo, this address was to enable the Health Minister to assess the epidemic situation and the vaccine campaign that started on Sunday December 27 in nursing homes. Olivier Véran was also to answer several viewers’ questions… He did all this and has announced a few surprises!

What are these announcements then? Olivier Véran explained a measure was decreed this morning: the organization of consultations with local groups, elected representatives and local health agencies to make extra measures. Another issue addressed, a new lockdown as required by many people, on a local and nationwide level, but the government has decided to rule it out for now and was more inclined to extend curfew.

It will start from 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. in departments and cities that have an incidence rate above the maximum threshold. This curfew might be implemented from January 2 depending on the government’s and concerned local groups’ upcoming decisions.

As for the reopening of museums, theaters, movie theaters, show venues and other cultural places, the Minister did not address the matter leaving players of the sector in a state of uncertainty as they hoped to be able to reopen from January 7, 2021.
