As weekend lockdown is starting in several cities in France, an official decree issued in Journal Officiel says bookstores are now part of necessary stores and places. Therefore, they are allowed to open in places in lockdown.

Their closure sparked a debate during November’s lockdown. And as local restrictions are strengthened, it is settled. Bookstores are part of necessary stores. This is what the French have discovered this Friday February 26, 2021 as several areas in France are entering their first weekend lockdown.

The news has been shared in a decree published in Journal Officiel. In fact, bookstores are now considered as places necessary to the life of the nation, and therefore are allowed to open despite lockdown. You are then allowed to go out to buy books. The only alternative that was available for bookstores was click&collect. From now on, they can welcome their customers like just stores allowed to open during lockdown can.
