France info reports Secretary of the Interior Gérald Darmanin has sent a memo to prefects in mainland France and overseas this Tuesday demanding them that “gatherings in the public space of over six people be strictly fined” in the 16 departments subject to “massive curbing measures”, as well as anywhere else in the country.
Yet, will only be fined gatherings over six people outdoors that are not declared, therefore excluding declared protests. Large families’ outings, as well as working out outside, are not targeted by the measure either.
According to the entourage of the Secretary of the Interior who spoke to AFP, police officers have been asked to show “discernment and common sense” as for issuing fines. “Forces of order will issue fine facts if the rule is broken”.
Still according to France Info, controls in railway stations and toll booths are planned for the coming days in order to control trips between regions – banned since March 20 in the 16 departments placed in 24/7 lockdown.
