Covid vaccination is improving… This is what Emmanuel Macron said this Wednesday March 31 in a televised address. Vaccination is to improve especially thanks to new orders and deliveries, as well as an increasing pace… “We put all the means to vaccinate, vaccinate without a break, without public holidays. On Saturday and Sunday, like throughout the week”, he said. He went on: “In all, 250,000 professionals, doctors, pharmacists, firefighters, veterinarians are now ready to take part in this major domestic effort”.

Another topic raised to improve vaccination: manufacturing vaccines in France and Europe. “We are fully rallying around. There have been delays, there have been things we have corrected, but in the weeks to come, we will be able to accelerate the number of doses we get, and we will start the first continent in the world in terms of vaccine manufacturing”. He went on: “It is building our independence, it is making sure that if we need extra doses, we will not depend on the others anymore, it is about guaranteeing the production of new vaccines – if there are – in the Fall, Winter or next year, and new vaccinations to plan”.

The French President also took a stock on the vaccination campaign schedule, announcing people over 55 years of age and suffering from diabetes for instance, high blood pressure or obesity can now make an appointment with their doctors or pharmacists to get AstraZeneca vaccine injected. For others, here is how the vaccination campaign is expected to run:

  • From March 31: vaccination opens to people over 70 years of age, without comorbidities
  • From April 16: vaccination opens to people over 60 years of age
  • From May 15: vaccination opens to people over 50 years of age
  • From mid-June: vaccination opens to all adults

For the record, President Macron explained this past March 25 that around April 20, “we’ll move on to a first step thanks to vaccination in terms of herd protection”. He went on: “which will progressively enable us to remove pressure on ICUs, and to enter – starting late April and all May long – a progressive return and steps I would have tried to detail soon”. A progressive return to social life is expected to begin from mid-May, the President also said.
