The health pass is compulsory for the under-18, including implementation starting from Thursday September 30, 2021 for teenagers between 12 and 17 years of age. But careful though, this health pass will eventually only apply to people from 12 years and 2 months.

Senators wanted the abrogation of the health pass for minors. But in the end, a compromise has been found this July 25, 2021 by the joint committee not canceling the measure but postponing it. After the Parliament passed and the Constitutional Council approved it, the health pass is kept for minors. It will be compulsory for teenagers aged 12 to 17 starting from Thursday September 30, 2021.

Yet, a specification has been made on Wednesday September 8, 2021. The famous health pass compulsory for teens starting from September 30 will eventually only applies from 12 years and 2 months of age. “The two-month extra time is granted to enable teens who are barely 12 as of September 30, 2021 to get fully vaccinated against Covid-19”, the service-public website reads.

As a matter of fact, as Le Parisien daily explained, some teenagers are found in a delicate situation because of this measure to come. Therefore, those born shortly before or after September 30, 2009 will have to get the door opener from September 30, 2021. But the problem so far is the latter will not be able to enjoy complete vaccination since vaccination is still banned for people under the age of 12. According to the daily, about 200,000 teenagers are in this situation. So, to solve it, Matignon said the health pass compulsory for teens from September 30 will only apply from 12 years and 2 months of age. For the record, it is necessary to wait for three weeks between two doses of the vaccine. An extra week is also necessary after the second injection to get a valid health pass.

Starting from September 30, 2021, to access places and events requiring the health pass (movie theaters, gyms, swimming pools, restaurants, cafés…), teens aged 12 years and 2 months to 17 will have to present a QR code proving full vaccination, a 72-hour negative test or a Covid-19 recovery certificate between 11 days and 6 months. Note a “medical certificate proving vaccination medical contraindication can be shown instead of the 3 documents aforementioned”, the service-public website reads.

How to get the health pass?

As for adults, the teenager gets a summary of the vaccination and a vaccination certificate after each injection. Please make sure to keep both documents. For the record, minors’ parents – who completed full vaccination – can download their child’s certificate since July 20 on the health insurance teleservice by signing up on France Connect. Moreover, you can also ask a health professional (doctor, pharmacist, nurse) to find this vaccination certificate and print it out. Then, you only have to scan the QR code with your phone and download it onto the TousAntiCovid application.

As for RT-PCR, antigenic tests and self-tests, they all give proof of the result by a professional in the SI-DEP database “that can be downloaded straight, and put at the disposal of the patient via an email or a text”. Parents can then get the proof their under-aged child’s vaccination certificate on SI-DEP. Negative supervised self-test, negative or positive antigenic test or negative or positive RT-PCR test results are certified with a QR Code and all downloadable onto TousAntiCovid.
