Covid: eating and drinking banned in several public places, starting from this Monday

Following the latest health defense council, Jean Castex announced drinking and eating was banned in all movie theaters, theaters, sport facilities and public transit – including long hauls. This measure will come into effect from Monday January 3, 2022, for three weeks.

In order to curb the 5th wave and stop the spread of the Omicron variant in France, the government gathered this December 27, 2021, for a new health defense council. Therefore, several measures have been decided such as the ban of standing shows, limited gatherings for major events, and compulsory facemask-wearing extended to all city-centers.

Jean Castex also announced drinking and eating will be banned in all theaters, movie theaters, sporting facilities, without forgetting public transit – including long hauls. The measure is to come into effect from Monday January 3, 2022, and will last at least 3 weeks.

The Prime Minister also announced standing consumption will be banned in restaurants and bars.
