This December 27, Jean Castex once again addressed a press brief as the Covid-19 new contamination toll skyrockets in France. Several announcements have been made including the ban of standing consumption in bars and cafés starting from January 3, 2022.

New rules are to be applied to bars and cafés from the beginning of 2022. Faced with the 5th wave and the Omicron variant hitting France at a crazy pace, the government gathered this Monday December 27, 2021, for a new health defense council. Therefore, several measures have been decided to stop the very high toll of new Covid-19 cases. Among them? The ban of standing shows, compulsory facemask-wearing extended to all city-centers, new gauges, remote working made compulsory in all companies, when possible, as well as the ban of eating and drinking in several public places and means of transport.

Jean Castex also announced standing consumption will be banned in bars and cafés. Therefore, in these places, it will be only possible to eat and drink when “seated”. The measure will come into effect from January 3, 2022, for at least 3 weeks.

Economic sectors impacted by the decisions the situation forces us to make will be compensated as part of consultations without delay, as led by Minister of the Economy and Finances Bruno Le Maire”, Jean Castex added during his press brief.
