The Constitutional Council eventually delivered their report. Referred to by 60 deputies and about sixty senators from the opposition, following the approval of the vaccine pass this past January 16 by the Parliament; this Friday January 21, the institution has assessed the law enabling to transform the health pass into a vaccine pass.
For the record, the vaccine pass has been definitively passed by the Parliament last Sunday after weeks of debates. The controversial text received 215 votes for, 58 votes against, and 7 abstentions.
The Council of the Wise has delivered their decision, mostly approving the bill put up by the Parliament. Contestation topic for the opposition, the Constitutional Council approved the amendment allowing café owners and restaurant managers to check ID. They justify the decision calling on “health protection”.
But, they forbid the use of the vaccine pass for political meetings: the Wise quote the Declaration of Independence, judging the freedom of speech does not allow to filter access to these events. Promoters of such events yet are encouraged to take “all suitable health precaution measures such as limiting audience members, handing masks over, or airing venues”.
Last but not least, the Constitutional Council insists on the fact this vaccine pass must be disactivated as soon as the health situation allows it.
The vaccine pass is set to come into effect from this Monday January 24, 2022, in accordance with what Jean Castex announced this Thursday January 20, during his press conference.
