This Thursday March 3, 2022, at noon, the famous tenor bell of Notre-Dame de Paris is to ring to “call for peace in Europe”, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine is being invaded by the Russians since this past February 24, and messages supporting the Ukrainian people have been increasing all around the world. Peace advocates have been uniting everywhere in the world, calling for peaceful gatherings. This past Sunday, over 100,000 people protested in Berlin to support Ukraine. They all have only one goal: calling for peace.

This March 3, 2022, all eyes will be on Notre-Dame de Paris. The Emmanuel tenor bell – considered as the biggest bell of the famous cathedral in Paris – will ring this Thursday at noon to “call for peace in Europe”. “In communion with other cathedrals, the “bourdon Emmanuel” will ring out to call for peace in Europe”, Notre-Dame de Paris wrote on Twitter.

And it will not be the only one to ring out the bells this Thursday as more European cathedrals will do so too, as called in by the European Association of Cathedrals, Le Figaro claims. The daily adds cathedral from Autun (Saône-et-Loire), Dijon (Côte-d’Or), Coventry (England) and even Berlin (Germany) will sound the tocsin for 7 minutes (one minute per day since the Russian invasion in Ukraine).

In a text sent to Le Figaro, the European Association of Architects and Works of Cathedrals explain that through this ringing, they are willing to show “support with the peoples” and “remember the dead of all countries involved”.

For the record, the last time the tenor bell of Notre-Dame de Paris rang was on April 15, 2020, when commemorating the fire of the cathedral and to pay tribute to caregivers amid the health crisis.
