The horizon 2024 was announced for the end of renovations and public reopening after the fire of the Notre-Dame de Paris. The Minister of Culture maintains this date despite lots of delays.

Will the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris accessible again for the Summer Olympics? Nothing is less certain, but the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak, sounded confident when visiting the site. After the fire that destroyed the historic building in April 2019, Emmanuel Macron announced it will reopen in 2024. But since then, some renovations were delayed and the goal will be hard to meet.

The Minister of Culture spoke of a “bold goal” despite “extremely complex works”. In fact, Parisians and tourists may be able to walk the cathedral again and cult can resume, but works are not over yet. General Jean-Louis Georgelin – entrusted with the renovation of the cathedral – stated last week the goal was difficult but the schedule was not called into question though.

As for now, the renovation works are completing stage two, the reconstruction, after securing and consolidation. The third phase will take place outside the cathedral with the planning of the parvis, depending on the Paris authorities.
