The renovations of the Notre-Dame cathedral are coming along nicely, and the reopening of the Pont au Double, 3.5 years after the fire, is a symbolical change limiting the impact of the work site. As a matter of fact, visitors could already access the parvis of the monument thanks to the Petit Pont, but with this one, everyone will be able to walk their usual road to the Ile de la Cité, to surrounding storekeepers’ greatest joy.
This wooden bridge, joining the parvis to Quai de Montebello reopened this Thursday September 8, with local representatives, happy to show the progress of the renovations likely to be almost done for 2024. The parvis area set around the statue of Charlemagne was inaugurated again too. Storekeepers hope it will help them relaunch their economy by the cathedral as it dropped since it closed. Furthermore, those set North of the building are still impacted by this lack of visibility.
Emmanuel Grégoire, first Paris deputy mayor, told BFMTV he was “very happy the reliberation of these areas can bring flow and more tourists back”.
