Have you always dreamt of traveling back to the past? The Commission du Vieux Paris offers you to discover the city as it was in the 20th century thanks to incredible archive pictures.

Have you ever wondered what this or that street was like back in the days? The Commission du Vieux Paris enables to satisfy your curiosity! Especially important for the story of the city, the 20th century saw two world wars, the Belle Epoque, and plenty of artistic movements and incredible inventions. Thanks to black & white pictures from archives, an interactive map takes you to a tour of Paris from the past!

This digital photo library was set up by the Commission du Vieux Paris and the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research). A very tedious work that yet enables us to see Paris in a new light! An interactive map also enables us to very easily compare a place from the past and how it is today, see what our favorite monuments, buildings or landmarks looked like! An informative card also details the context, date, photographer and exact location.

A genuine gold mine offering us to discover now-gone architecture pieces or some that have been transformed over the years, like the Viaduc d’Auteuil.

An example? Here is the Eiffel Tower, by night, during the February 1955 floodings, by photographer Jean Albert!
