Museums Night is coming back on Saturday May 18, 2019 and, on the occasion many museums remain open for a free late-night opening! Usually, the Palais Galliera also known as the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, welcomes fashion and art lovers, but this year, it will remain closed due to works.
Designed by the Duchesse de Galliera to present her art collection to the general public, the hotel particulier is built in 1894. Unfortunately, because of some administrative error, the Duchesse de Galliera wouldn't be able to giver her collection to Paris and would rather give it to the Palazzo Rosso in Genoa.
Then, only the Renaissance-inspired building will remain and will later become a museum of industrial art instead of displaying Duchesse de Galliera's collections. It's only in 1977 that the Paris Authorities give it its first theme back: the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris was born.
Today, the collection of the Ville de Paris features over 200,000 pieces including clothes, accessories, photographs and graphic art works from the 18th century to noawadays.
Meet in December 2019 to see the result!
