Toile de Jouy might ring a bell, but do you know what it is? Make the most of the 18th edition of Museums Night to find out more about this piece of Yvelines heritage. This Saturday May 14, 2022? Head to the Musée de la Toile de Jouy for a night of uncommon discoveries.
This uncommon museum unveils all the secrets about this toil printed in Jouy-en-Josas, from 1765 to 1843, in the Oberkampf fabric factory. The museum presents printed cloths and everything used for the printing, as well as the old drawings used to make the oh-so characteristic toiles de Jouy with red or purple patterns against white or off-white background. Today, the museum keeps over 10,000 items from this era.
The museum is also worth the tour because of its architecture: set in the Château de l’Eglantine, this 19th century castle has experienced a chaotic history, and now presents a large variety of styles.
