For the 20th Nuit des Musées, the Musée de la Libération de Paris is offering an original program to discover free of charge this Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Every year, the Nuit des Musées (Museum Night) brings together thousands of curious visitors to museums and monuments across France. Over the course of an evening, museums, monuments, foundations and even châteaux invite us to experience an exceptional nocturne, often free of charge and accompanied by special events.

For the next edition, on May 18, 2024, the Musée de la Libération de Paris will be taking part. Located in the 14th arrondissement, this emblematic museum of the French capital offers an exceptional immersion in the major events of the Second World War. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about the heroism of Jean Moulin, General Leclerc and so many other Resistance fighters on this special night dedicated to culture.

Inaugurated in 1994 and renovated in 2019, the Musée de la Libération de Paris - Musée du Général Leclerc - Musée Jean Moulin is housed in the Pavillon Ledoux, a historic building near the Montparnasse train station. This place steeped in history traces the careers of two great men who left their mark on the French Resistance: Jean Moulin, prefect and Resistance fighter, and General Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque, commander of the 2nd Armored Division. The museum offers a poignant look at the lives of the Resistance fighters and the various stages leading up to the Liberation of Paris in August 1944.

The program for this Nuit des Musées 2024 at the Musée de la Libération de Paris:

  • Self-guided tour of the permanent collections
    Saturday, May 18, 10:00 a.m.

Located on Place Denfert-Rochereau, a site that bears the scars of the Liberation of Paris, the museum provides an insight into a fundamental page in French history through the lives of two very different men: Jean Moulin and Philippe de Hauteclocque.
Their common goal? The liberation of France, of which the Liberation of Paris is the most powerful symbol. Their stories accompany visitors on a journey punctuated by encounters and face-to-face encounters with over 300 objects, original documents, photographs, archive videos and testimonies evoking the Resistance, the fighting, the repression, the underground and the freedom regained.
Please note: the temporary exhibition and the underground command post will not be open to the public.

  • Students recount the Liberation of Paris
    Saturday, May 18, 5:00 p.m.

Pupils from a 3rd grade class at François Villon secondary school took inspiration from works on display in the museum to write texts recounting the days of the Liberation of Paris. These texts, recorded in the form of podcasts, will be accessible to museum visitors via QR codes placed on the display cases of the objects that inspired them.
European Museum Night 2024 will be the opportunity to inaugurate this QR code tour. Students will be on hand to introduce visitors to the system, and to recite their texts in the room dedicated to the battles of the Liberation of Paris.

A beautiful and varied program, which should take us on a journey during this Nuit des Musées!
