For the 20th Nuit des Musées, archaeology enthusiasts are invited to the Musée archéologique du Val-d'Oise, in Guiry-en-Vexin, to take part in a unique free nocturnal tour on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Founded in 1983, this museum in the Paris region invites visitors to discover over 3,000 of the 35,000 archaeological objects conserved on site.
On the visitor's side, an attractive tour links prehistory to contemporary times, from the sculpted blocks of the Genainville sanctuary, rebuilt in the 2nd century, to the concrete statues of the Soviet Pavilion at the 1937Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques de la Vie Moderne. Alongside the permanent exhibition, a rich and varied program awaits you, offering you the chance to discover the region's archaeological artefacts while having fun, through special tours, workshops and lectures.
And for younger visitors, La Passerelle, de la fouille à l'exposition (from excavation to exhibition) invites them to discover archaeology at their own level, from research to prospecting to valorisation, by putting themselves in the shoes of an archaeologist on an excavation site, but also in the shoes of a laboratory researcher, a museum curator and an exhibition curator. In short, a beautiful museum to discover during this cultural event by night!

VIKINGS HERO
Conquerors, explorers, founders and kings
Viking! For a long time, this was a fearsome word, portraying the Nordic peoples as frightful plunderers, eager for conquest, battle and barbarism. This inaccurate historical image is all the more entrenched given that the early Middle Ages provide only the rarest archaeological evidence of the presence of these northern men and women in France.
From Normandy to Paris via the Seine, the Val d'Oise is merely a land of passage. Yet its historical borders are intimately linked to its Viking past.
