Museums Night 2018 at the Arts et Métiers

On Museums Night 2018, the Musée des Arts et Métiers invites you on Saturday May 19, 2018. On the menu: free visit of the museum throughout the night and many demonstrations of incredible inventions!

On Museums Night 2018, the Musée des Arts et Métiers welcomes curious children and adults within the museum’s rooms dedicated to inventions of all times.

Along the collections, let yourself be "hypnotized" by Foucault pendulum swings making you see the Earth turning. You will fly away aboard flying machines chasing Icarus’ dream, electrified by human ingenuity’s sparkles and blown away by demonstrations escaped from the past.

“La Classe, l’oeuvre!” Discovering transports
Saturday May 19, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Curating children will make their classes, parents and all visitors discover some emblematic items of the Transports collection: Clément Ader’s plane N°3, Carmagnolle’s diving suit, Cugnot’s dray, the king of Rome, Velocipedes and Ford T.

Coiners: creation of a selfie with your initials!
Saturday May 19, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“The letter is the tool of a word”. Articulated, handled, reworked, letters become a true instrument of creation, they are pictures. Come along and play with your initials and immortalize your portrait between figuration and abstraction.

Demonstration of the magic lantern

From the mid-17th century, the magic lantern and its views painted on plates of glass will fascinate, frighten or teach the people. Come and relive these fantastic wakes our ancestors used to enjoy a lot…

Clément Ader’s plane (flash tour)
Saturday May 19, 2018 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:50 p.m.
In the 19th century, with his plane N°3, Clément Ader developed the first “machine heavier than air”, destined to accomplish one of men’s oldest dreams: being able to fly.

Cugnot’s steam dray (flash tour)
Saturday May 19, 2018, from 11 p.m. to 11:20 p.m.
In 1769, military engineer Nicolas Cugnot builds the first vehicle able to do without animal traction. Come and discover the story of this bold project dropped in 1771, that unleashed passions.

Foucault Pendulum
Saturday May 19, 2018 from 7 p.m. to 11:50 p.m.
This night, “you’re invited to see Earth turn”. Through this mythic experience you’re offered to attend a demonstration of the Foucault Pendulum which, designed in 1851 for the first, oscillates between science and amazement.

Lavoisier’s lab (flash tour)
Saturday May 19, 2018 from 10:30 p.m. to 10:50 p.m.
In front of the original instruments and items, discover the fantastic experiences and the theories developed by Lavoisier. This visit will be the occasion to know more about the uncommon career of the one we considered to be the father of modern chemistry.
