This year again, the Palace of Versailles takes part in Museums Night and offers us an unforgettable evening, discovering confidential rooms and galleries in the Sun King's palace.
On Saturday July 3, 2021, starting from 7 p.m., enjoy a free tour of the palace and especially the Sculpture and Moulding gallery and the Coach gallery. Both places - respectively set in the Palace's small stables and the Great stables - are often litte-known by the public.
And yet, they gathered incredibly rich collections. The Sculpture and Moulding gallery houses copies of ancient Greek and Roman statues from the Louvre. It also houses masterpieces made of marble from the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, stored here and there to keep them safe from erosion. This ensemble is one of the greatest Antique statue collections until the 18th century.
In the Great Stables, find one of the richest collections of horse-drawn carriages in Europe. Admire vehicles from the 18th century and enjoy the evolution of these carriages, from the Ancien Régime to the Restauration.
Make the most of this free evening - open without prior booking - and discover all these unfairly forgotten collections.
After your visit, roam around the Versailles estate, this huge park: over 63,000sqm of space, scattered around 2,300 rooms, including 1,000 open to the public, 815 hectares of park, including 93 hectares of garden... And to be honest, one day is not enough to visit the estate and get all the transformations it went through over time.
A lovely program for an exceptional night in the Sun King's former house!
