This Saturday May 20, 2017, the museum takes part in Museums Night and invites us to discover the Gallery of Evolution for free and at night-time!
On Museums Night 2017 what about visiting the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle’s Gallery of Evolution? It features over 7,000 stuffed animals giving a picture of the species visible across the world including some which have disappeared or are endangered. Southern right whale’s and blue whale’s skeletons welcome us and show us the path through the mammal world: giraffe, elephant, zebras and hyenas occupy the museum’s alleys.
In 2015, to celebrate the Gallery of Evolution’s 20th birthday, the collections’ 7,000 specimens have been restored by the museum’s taxidermists. For almost three years, they have been dusted and some of them even have been "fixed". Stuffed animals kept their expression! Specimens’ restoration might be visible because it often happens that taxidermists have to work "in situ" to prevent from moving the animals.
The visit will then continue through the temporary exhibition "Espèces d’Ours!" focusing on bears so you can learn everything about these wild beasts.
Throughout the visit through the temporary and permanent exhibitions, you can attend different performances by Jade and Cyril, from the Compagnie du Singe debout, who will perform non-stop from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
