World Music Day 2017 at the Irish Cultural Center in Paris drew a crowd of over 5000 spectators with its unique and fun atmosphere!
This year, on Thursday June 21, the Irish Cultural Center presents for this World Music Day 2018, many new artists, happy and proud to represent all the richness of the Irish music stage.
On the menu? Katie Laffan, Cúig and Rusangano Family
Katie Laffan (pop funk)
Recently elected by Irish Times as one of the rising stars in 2018, Katie Laffan has ants in her pants. Between a first EP with funk notes and her alternative disco anthem “Tastemaker” out last year, the young Dublin girl is full of inventiveness and enjoys herself drawing her inspiration from many music genres, from reggae to pop without forgetting ska, post-punk and even some hip-hop touches. Or when a slightly hoarse voice meets with fresh and mind-blowing pop melodies…
With Katie Laffan (voice, guitar), Robert Kilpatrick (keys), Jennifer Kemple (saxophone)
Cúig (traditional music)
“Talent has no age”, Cúig first opus – New Landscapes – confirms. An album critically acclaimed at its release in 2016. For several years, the five musicians from Northern Ireland impress with their maturity and take Europe and the USA by storm with their joyful performances. Tonight, they will perform traditional tunes and original pieces with an infectious energy. A very promising formation from the Irish stage that you want to look very closely!
With Miceál Mullen (banjo, mandolin), Rónán Stewart (fiddle, uilleann pipes), Cathal Murphy (drums), Eoin Murphy (diatonic accordion), Ruairí Stewart (guitar)
Rusangano Family (hip-hop)
In 2015, two rappers – God Knows and MuRli – and a DJ – mynameisjOhn – join forces to create Rusangano Family. With many influences, their music if the sound of modern Irish creativity: sensitive and committed hip-hop, crossed electro, afrobeat and soul. The Limerick-based music fraternity quickly causes a sensation and is awarded the very coveted Choice Music Prize 2016 for Album of the Year with “Let the Dead Bury the Dead”. Yet, it’s live at the trio shows their talent. Don’t miss this explosive performance that will electrify the end of World Music Day!
