The traditional Chinese New Year's Parade in Paris Marais neighborhood was said to be held on Sunday January 26, 2020, but has been cancelled this Sunday morning by the Chinese community of Paris.

The traditional Chinese New Year Parade that was normally held this Sunday January 26 in the afternoon, has been cancelled this morning by the Chinese community.

"Paris Chinese community wished to cancel the parade planned this afternoon at the Place de la République itself", Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo has said. She added she "met the Chinese community of Paris yesterday and they were overwhelmed and worried".

"We must respect the decision of the Chinese associations. They really didn't feel like celebrating", Paris Mayor adds.

A surprise, one week before the Chinese New Year's parade held in Paris 13th arrondissement, known as Chinatown because of the worried feelings generated by the coronavirus.

Marais’ Parade, was said to be held at Place de la République this year, is certainly one of the most beautiful ones in the capital. It would have kicked off after the opening ceremony (with dragon and lion dances among other things). Dancers, dragons and lions would have been dancing to the beat of drums and cymbals to celebrate the first day of the Year of the Rat.

For this cultural event, the 3rd district of Paris alwys organizes a whole week full of events focusing on Chinese culture : exhibitions, martial arts demos, concerts and conferences.
