Created in 2004 and designed as one of the biggest music festival in France, Main Square Festival owes a part of its success to the venue of Grand’Place in Arras where the festival took place for seven years. Seven years during which festivalgoers admire this Grand’Place – seen as an architectural complex unique in Europe. Back in the days, this historical site allowed to accommodate about 30,000 festivalgoers per day. On this very same spot, Main Square Festival already welcomed bands like Muse, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Radiohead and even Placebo.
Since 2010, Main Square Festival takes place at the Citadelle Vauban in Arras, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This new venue helped the festival being able to welcome even more people, about 40,000 festivalgoers.
After DJ Snake, Macklemore, Ben Harper or even Christine and The Queens in 2019, the festival has had to be cancelled and postpone the editions 2020 and 2021 because of the health crisis. But the festival has not said their last word and wil be back on Thursday June 30, Friday July 1, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3, 2022 in Arras for the new and 16th edition.
