When she was 12 and after escaping the genocide, Dorothé Munyaneza left Rwanda. She returned there after a while to collect records she presents in her new show “Unwanted” of which one of the most heartbreaking episode: raped women who had to give birth to the children born from these rapes.
She tells everything here on the stage of the 104 (CentQuatre) with the wish of giving these forgotten women the memory they deserve. Rape is described as a weapon of mass destruction and the voices she makes her public hear only speak about devastated babies which childhoods are impossible.
On the stage, she puts together and undoes the décor thought up by plastic artist Bruce Clarke whilst being accompanied by Holland Andrews’ harrowing voice and Alain Mahé’s electronic music. All together, they explore the unexplored regions of sound and voice, pushing experimental music beyond its limits.
And this music is absolutely unforgettable. It perfectly translates the horror and the inexpressible thing that she tells here.
This show is deeply moving and extremely brave. You shouldn’t miss it!
