Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées presents an exceptional version of George Bizet’s world’s famous opera, Carmen (1875): with “Une Carmen, étoile du cirque”, directed by Andrez Bernard, the opera welcomes the youngest ones and lovers of atypical. Don’t miss it on Sundays May 12 and 19, 2019.

You like classic music, you love opera, but you don’t know how to pass this sweet passion to your children? We fell you: shows last for hours, are very expensive and are sometimes directed in a complex manner… Problems that are no more with Une Carmen, étoile du cirque, a low-cost show (only €20 for adults and €10 for people under 26 years old!) performed on the stage of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.

The idea? Telling the story of the beautiful Carmen and her two suitors, Don Jose and Escamillo, in the universe of a circus. The young Italian director, Andrea Bernard, shakes up some settings of the original story by inviting on stage colorful circus artists: Don Jose becomes the circus guard and Escamillo a strongman. They both evolve alongside a knife thrower, a trapeze artist, a fakir, jugglers, acrobats and dancers…

The performance lasts 1h15 and gives a nice overview of what a contemporary touch can give to classic operas: inventiveness, colors, energy… After this, your children would ask to go on an opera outing!
