SNCF strike on Tuesday: traffic forecasts for Transilien and RER trains

Bad news for public transport users in the Paris region. A strike by railway workers is scheduled for Tuesday May 21, 2024. The consequences? Traffic is expected to be "severely disrupted on Transilien lines". Major disruptions are also expected on the RER. Discover the detailed traffic forecasts.

If you're planning to take the RER or a Transilien train this Tuesday, May 21, 2024, then you'll need to plan ahead. Due to an industrial action at SNCF, major disruptions are expected on the Transilien network. " Traffic heavily disrupted on Transilien lines " this Tuesday, May 21, says the SNCF on the Transilien website. All Transilien lines are affected by the strike, namely lines H, J, K, L, N, P, R and U.

This strike by SNCF railway workers, called by the Sud-Rail and CGT-Cheminots unions, will also affect the RER network in Paris and the Île-de-France region. Major disruptions are expected on RER lines C, D and E.

On RER line A, " traffic could be disrupted on Tuesday May 21 on the Cergy and Poissy branches ", according to the Transilien website. RER line B will also be affected. Passengers are invited to postpone their journeys"as far as possible".

The aim of the strike? To put pressure on management ahead of the famous negotiations on bonuses to be paid on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

So what exactly can we expect this Tuesday? Could it be a black day on the RER and Transilien trains? Detailed traffic forecasts were unveiled on May 19, and SNCF is predicting no trains between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on RER E. On RER C, there will be an average of 2 trains out of 5 during rush hour. In addition, Avenue du Pdt Kennedy, Boulainvilliers, Porchefontaine, Versailles RG and Dourdan La Forêt stations will not be served. On the RER A, expect 1 train out of 2 on the Cergy and Poissy branches. On RER B, SNCF is announcing 1 train out of 2 on the northern section and 2 trains out of 3 on the southern section. Finally, on RER D, an average of 1 train out of 5 will run between 6.30 and 9.30 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. only.

  • RER A: Traffic very disrupted on Cergy and Poissy branches. Expect 1 train out of 2.


  • RER B: Expect 1 train out of 2 on the northern part of the line and 2 trains out of 3 on the southern part. No train changes at Gare du Nord. No trains from 22:45 between Gare du Nord and Aéroport CDG/Mitry-Claye due to roadworks.


  • RER C: Heavy disruption on Tuesday May 21. Expect 2 trains out of 5 during rush hour. From 6.30am to 9.30am and from 4pm to 8pm, depending on branch, 1 train every 15 to 30 minutes.

      • Juvisy <> Paris Austerlitz GL: service to all stations along the route. Frequency: 1 train every half-hour: from 5.58am to 9.28am and from 4.58pm to 7.28pm.
      • Invalides <> Saint-Quentin en Yvelines: frequency every quarter-hour, from 6:10 to 9:40 and from 4:10 to 7:39.
      • Avenue Henri Martin <> Ermont Eaubonne: quarter-hourly frequency, from 6.25am to 10.10am and from 4.40pm to 8.25pm.
      • Paris Austerlitz GL <> Brétigny sur Orge: hourly frequency, from 10am to 4pm.
      • Versailles Chantiers <> Massy Palaiseau: hourly frequency during rush hour.
      • No traffic between Paris Austerlitz Banlieue and Invalides, between Choisy le Roi and Massy Palaiseau, between Ermont Eaubonne and Pontoise.
      • Avenue du Pdt Kennedy, Boulainvilliers, Porchefontaine, Versailles RG and Dourdan La Forêt stations are not served.


  • RER D: Extreme traffic disruption on Tuesday May 21. Expect 1 train out of 5 from 06:30 to 09:30 and from 16:00 to 20:00 only.

  • RER E : Traffic severely disrupted on Tuesday May 21. No trains between 10am and 5pm.
    Outside these times, expect 2 trains out of 5 on the Haussmann-Saint Lazare / Chelles and Haussmann-Saint Lazare / Tournan routes.
    Villiers sur Marne services will be cancelled. Rosny-Bois Perrier, Rosny Sous Bois, Nogent-Le Perreux and Les Boullereaux-Champigny stations are not served.
