In France, Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14th. This date commemorates the storming of the Bastille, a key event in the history of the French Revolution. Traditionally, July 14th is marked by a military parade, which this year, due to the Olympic Games, will move to the Avenue Foch.
Fireworks are set off all over the country, including in the Île-de-France region. In Paris, the fireworks display is fired from the Eiffel Tower and Trocadero Gardens on the evening of July 14 (rather than on the evening of July 13, as in other cities), offering an iconic show. And all night long, you can join in the fun at the firemen's balls.
The previous edition of the July 14th fireworks display in Paris captivated spectators with the theme "Carpe Diem". This year's theme is"Freedom", inviting us to celebrate the national holiday as a moment of escape from everyday life. Once again, this choice of theme is intended to bring people together.
The show kicks off at 11 p.m. and promises to be an explosion of color and light, thanks to close collaboration between pyrotechnics and lighting techniques. Paris City Hall assures us that this year's show will be packed with surprises, both visual and aural, with technical innovations and an immersive soundtrack.
The fireworks will be launched at 11:00 pm from the Eiffel Tower and the Bassins du Trocadéro, illuminating the Parisian sky until 11:35 pm. For the best views, we recommend arriving early. Although the fireworks start at 11 p.m., prime seats are in high demand from 8.30 p.m. onwards.
Please note that the grand lyricconcert will not be accessible, as it will be held behind closed doors, but will be broadcast live on television, allowing everyone to enjoy the music synchronized with the fireworks. In conjunction with the fireworks display, the Orchestre National de France, conducted by Eun Sun Kim, the Radio France Choir and the Maîtrise de Radio France will be honoring the theme "merci aux héros du quotidien" ("thank you to everyday heroes").
With access restrictions on the Champ-de-Mars and Trocadéro, spectators have to find alternatives to enjoy the show. Here are a few suggestions:
Access to several areas will be closed in the morning, and the Iena, Tour Maubourg and Alma Marceau metro stations will close at 7pm. Public transport remains the best option for getting to the show. Metro lines 8, 6, 10, 13, and RER lines Javel, Invalides, and Austerlitz are recommended for arrivals. If you're bringing children, be prepared for a long wait. Bring comfortable shoes, water, snacks and something to entertain the little ones. Space can be tight, and large crowds can be intimidating for young spectators.
For those who prefer to avoid the crowds, the fireworks will be broadcast live on France 2 from 9pm, with full coverage including the concert. This option allows you to enjoy the event from the comfort of your own living room.
The July 14th fireworks display in Paris is an event not to be missed. Whether you choose to join the crowd or watch from home, get ready for an evening of memorable festivities celebrating freedom and our everyday heroes.
