Lively, cheerful, noisy and cosmopolitan, the neighborhoods of Belleville and Ménilmontant set the pace ineastern Paris. During the day, it's a great place to dine in one of the many Asian restaurants, or simply to stroll and relax in the Parc de Belleville, which overlooks the neighborhood's narrow streets.
In the evening, night owls gather at the counters and terraces of the many bars in the area, right up to Place Gambetta, where beer flows freely at mini prices. At weekends, Père Lachaise, just a stone's throw away, welcomes tourists and families seeking calm and serenity in a constantly hectic neighborhood, after enjoying a generous and affordable brunch in one of the nearby coffee shops.
From Belleville to Ménilmontant, and even a little higher up on the Butte de Belleville - the second-highest point in Paris after the Butte Montmartre - you can stroll around with the certainty of stumbling across a nice place around every corner. But don't lose your breath climbing the devilishly steep streets of Belleville and Ménilmontant!
