Did you know? The town of Mante-la-Jolie has been the holiday resort of several French kings. Its name was given by Henri IV, who wrote to his mistress Gabrielle d'Estrées: " Je suis à Mantes, ma jolie " (" I'm in Mantes, my pretty one "). Pretty cute, isn't it? Mantes-la-Jolie's strategic geographical position and its crossroads between waterways and land routes also make it a hub of trade and commerce.
Every year, Mantes-la-Jolie hosts a fireworks display on the banks of the Seine, starting with a picnic in the Square Brieussel-Bourgeois. It's an opportunity for families and friends to get together and enjoy the sounds of the brass band. The evening continues with the traditional fireworks display over the Seine, but before that, a lantern-lit retreat is organized!
This year's festivities are once again being held on July 13, 2023, rather than July 14. Make sure you don't get the wrong date!
On the program:
Rendezvous at Square Brieussel-Bourgeois
From 8pm: picnic to the sound of a guinguette
10pm: Pick up your lantern with fanfare
10:40 pm: Torchlight procession begins
11pm: Admire the fireworks display on the banks of the Seine
Happy Fête Nationale 2023 to all!
