The Journées du Patrimoine 2023 promise to be rich in discoveries, and this year, theAcadémie nationale de médecine is once again taking part in the event, on Saturday September 16 in Paris. Head for rue Bonaparte, in the 6th arrondissement, in a building designed byAPHP architect Julien Richet.
From the session room, with its dome housing the monumental statue of Hippocrates, to the history of medicine paintings and marble and bronze busts of famous doctors, the Académie nationale de médecine will hold no secrets for you! It's also an opportunity to learn more about this 200-year-old institution , whose role is to respond to government requests on all matters concerning public health.
Another gem to discover is the library of the Académie de Médecine,"one of the richest medical libraries in the world", with its 400,000 volumes, including 13 incunabula - books printed in Europe before 1501. Documents in unusual formats are featured: from a few centimetres to over a metre in height, these works are illustrated using special techniques - woodcuts, leather engravings, lithographs - a real treasure trove for enthusiasts.
