Two months on lockdown and one summer later, here is the second coronavirus epidemic wave. France is facing a new increase in contaminations leading to more restrictions, as well as the re-implementation of the health emergency. We now know more on Covid-19 than we did for the first wave, specifically thanks to testing, far more numerous, enabling to establish statistics that refute some common preconceptions as for clusters.
We know clusters are a determining point since lockdown. Health agencies strategies consist in tracking down contact cases in order to warn them and urge them to get tested before they can contaminate anyone else. We could then figure out that clusters could represent most of contamination cases.
And yet, this Monday October 19, 2020 a release published by Santé Publique France refutes this received idea and says only 10% of contamination cases are related to clusters. In Île-de-France, particularly hit by the second coronavirus epidemic wave and where curfew has been implemented, the epidemiologic brief as of October 15, 2020 by the regional health agency said that only 3.6% of the cases reported between May 15 and October 11, 2020 are related to clusters.
