After the fire that ravaged the historic monument in April 2019, Emmanuel Macron had announced a reopening date of 2024. At present, work is well underway, with the spire and cockerel back at the top of the historic monument, and the roof structure inaugurated. The third phase will take place outside the cathedral, with thedevelopment of the forecourt.
Recently, the Archbishop of Paris, Monsignor Laurent Ulrich, announced the beginning of a programfor this reopening, including the return of the statue of Notre-Dame at the end of November, accompanied by a"grand popular procession through the streets". On December 7, an inauguration will take place, with an"organ wake, a liturgical celebration with a blessing, a Magnificat or a Te Deum, followed by vespers". The first mass in years will take place on December 8, the day of the Immaculate Conception, with a consecration of the altar.
"This feast of the reopening of Notre-Dame deserves an octave: from December 8 to 15, each day, we will have a solemn celebration with a particular theme", says the Archbishop of Paris, who hopes"that the people of Paris will be present at these celebrations of the reopening".
