Watch out for work this summer in the metro. In July and August 2023, RATP will be undertaking major renovation and modernization work. What are the consequences? Traffic is set to be disrupted on 8 Paris metro lines this summer. So which lines are affected, and what can we expect? We tell you all about it.

Are you a regular user of the Paris metro and planning to stay in the capital this summer? Bad news, because there's bound to be a lot of disruption underground over the next few weeks.

It's during the summer period that RATP undertakes major renovation and modernization work. "This year's summer works are once again on a major scale, in line with the ambition to radically transform your public transport system, which has been underway for several years now," explains RATP on its website.

Well aware that the work will cause inconvenience for passengers, RATP explains that Paris and Ile-de-France public transport users use the lines 30% less on average in July and August. "That' s why we're concentrating our closures on this period as much as possible ", explains the company.

So which metro lines are affected this summer, and what can we expect? In July and August 2023, traffic will be disrupted on exactly 8 metro lines, with mainly partial traffic interruptions and station closures. Let's find out!

On line 4, RATP has announced that the line will be closed every evening from 10.15pm onwards, from Wednesday to Thursday inclusive, until July 20, except July 13; then from August 30 to September 28 inclusive. The line is also closed on Sunday mornings until midday on June 18, and again on July 2 and 23.

Other disruptions on line 4? Traffic will be partially interrupted between Montparnasse-Bienvenüe and Bagneux-Lucie Aubrac stations from Friday June 9 to Sunday June 11 inclusive, then closed between Porte de Clignancourt and Barbès-Rochechouart stations from Saturday August 12 to Thursday August 17 inclusive.

On line 5, traffic will be interrupted between Gare du Nord and République stations for 24 days. The same disruption is to be expected on line 6, with traffic partially interrupted between Nation and Bercy stations for 37 consecutive days.

On line 7, the daily lives of passengers are likely to be severely affected, with no fewer than 10 stations inaccessible. The famous pink line of the Paris metro is thus closed for 6 days in a row between the stations La Courneuve - 8 mai 1945 and Gare de l'Est.

As line 11 is soon to be extended eastwards, further work is planned. The consequence? The line will be closed every evening from 10pm, Tuesday to Thursday inclusive, until September 28, 2023, as well as on Sundays, July 9 and 30, and August 27, 2023 (the line will be completely closed).

Line 12 is also affected by these summer works. On the metro's green line, RATP has announced a one-week interruption in traffic between Front Populaire and Jules Joffrin stations.

Line 13 users will also be affected, with Porte de Saint-Ouen station closed from July 19 to August 18, 2023 inclusive.

Finally, what about the work on line 14? The line will be closed all day for two weeks this summer.
