Inaugurated in 1906, line 5 of the Paris metro is 15 kilometers long and comprises 22 stations. From Place d'Italie to Bobigny - Pablo Picasso, it passes through three Île-de-France communes: Paris, Pantin and Bobigny, the latter two forming part of the inner suburbs of the Seine-Saint-Denis département (93). This RATP public transport line also passes through three Paris stations: Gare d'Austerlitz, Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord.

On its route, line 5 of the Paris metro crosses various districts of the capital, passing through the 10th, 11th, 13th and 19th arrondissements. Points of interest on this line include place de la Bastille, home to colonne de Juillet, and Parc de la Villette, near Porte de Pantin, home to the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, Grande Halle de la Villette and the Philharmonie de Paris.

Recognizable by its orange color, line 5 connects with a dozen other metro lines: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 7bis, 8, 9, 10 and 11. It is also connected to RER lines B, C, D and E.
