The Thinker, The Kiss, The Gates of Hell... Auguste Rodin created some of the world's most famous sculptures. What if you could admire them for free, during a festive evening? It couldn't be easier: take part in the Nuit des Musées at the Musée Rodin in Meudon, on Saturday May 18, 2024.
This Saturday, head to Hauts-de-Seine to visit Auguste Rodin's former home and studio. The sculptor 's last home has now been transformed into a museum, allowing the curious and art-lovers alike to discover and admire the artist's works. The house, studio and park are home to numerous sculptures and plaster casts, giving us a better understanding of Rodin's creative process.
All these works can be seen during the Nuit des Musées. This major cultural event is a delight for lovers of art and heritage: for one evening, many museums in Paris and the Ile-de-France region open their doors free of charge, and organize a variety of events to encourage the general public to (re)discover the treasures preserved in France. Here's what the Rodin Museum in Meudon has planned for this very special evening.
As a family, with friends or on your own, explore the park and its works of art, visit all the museum's spaces - the Villa des Brillants, the Galerie des plâtres and the Atelier des Antiques - and enjoy an original program.
Les Enfants-Conférenciers have their say
CE2, CM1 and CM2 pupils from Jean Monnet elementary school in Clamart have been taking part in the Enfants-Conférenciers educational program throughout the year. In small groups, the pupils take on the role of lecturers to help you discover the museum's works.
2:30 pm to 5:30 pm | Galerie des plâtres
With family, friends or on your own, wander through the park and its works of art, freely visit all the museum's spaces: the Villa des Brillants, the Galerie des plâtres and the Atelier des Antiques, and enjoy a unique program.
A workshop all in light
Inhabit the meudonnaise night and decorate the museum park with lanterns made and decorated during a participatory workshop with visual artist and scenographer Luna Duchaufour-Lawrence.
7pm to 9pm | Practical workshop
Visits between light and shadow
"It's a little dark, but that doesn't do anything for this sculpture; the shadows stay there with pleasure" (Auguste Rodin, Les Cathédrales de France, 1914)
With students from the Ecole du Louvre, learn to see and revisit the works in the Galerie des plâtres as daylight fades. With the naked eye or a flashlight, discover the details that inhabit Rodin's sculptures between light and shadow.
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm | Galerie des plâtres
With family, friends or on your own, explore the park and its works of art, visit all the museum's spaces - the Villa des Brillants, the Galerie des plâtres and the Atelier des Antiques - and enjoy a unique program.
Shadow ballet
Ombromanie performances - the art of creating shadows with the hands - were very popular in Rodin's day. Come nightfall, Philippe Beau, a veritable magician of shadows, echoes this tradition, inviting you to enjoy poetic performances set to music.
From 9.30pm | opposite the Galerie des plâtres
A lovely evening to enjoy with family and friends this May!
